What will students learn from this class?
Improvisation Acting is a branch of acting that is more specific to expressing and communicating oneself through unplanned and unscripted performance. Students will be exposed to series of workshops, games, and exercises that develop spontaneity and creativity. Additionally, the core acting skills will also be taught as a foundation throughout the semester, providing students with acting tools used in improvisation and valuable soft skills that will be beneficial throughout professional and personal life.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background, and how this class came about?
My name is Peevara and I have theatre experience over 15 years. I am director, producer and performer professionally in Bangkok, UK, New Zealand and Australia. Mentored by the Co-Founders of an Award-Winning Theatre Company, Selladoor Worldwide
This class was taught at CMU's ETC program. When I was asked to teach this class I adapted parts from the theatre workshops I conduct for business organizations, to be more educational and fit well with the interdisciplinary nature of the cohort. Me and our Program Director Natasha Patamapongs has designed this syllabus for our students to have interpersonal skill, focus, spontaneity throughout professional and personal life.
How can the skills learned be used in different industries/situations?
Acting is an essential skill for everybody to learn at the beginning for helping you to be a better person. After you have an acting skill, you will be able to use in a different situation because you will understand each circumstance such as pitching meeting, business dealing, a work environment that has to deal with special human challenges. This skill will help you see your behavior and another differently and break down a human behavior to solve each situation.

TELLY LEUNG เกิดและเติบโตที่เมืองนิวยอร์ค สหรัฐอเมริกา ฝึกฝนการแสดงที่ Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama (CMU) เมื่อจบการศึกษา เขาได้ทำงานด้านการแสดงอย่างต่อเนื่อง และเริ่มเป็นนักแสดงละครBroadway ครั้งแรกในปี 2002 ด้วยบทบาทensemble และเป็นunder study บท Wang Ta ในเรื่อง Flower Drum Song
ในปี 2005 เขาได้ร่วมงานกับ Stephen Sondheim ในRoundabout's Broadway revival of PACIFIC OVERTURES จากนั้นเขาได้ร่วมแสดงเรื่อง Wicked (Chicago production) ในบท Boq
จากนั้นTelly ได้ร่วมแสดง RENT ชุดสุดท้ายของ Broadway และรับบทเป็น Angel ใน Hollywood Bowl กำกับโดย Neil Patrick Harris ปี2012-2015 แสดงละครบอร์ดเวย์เรื่อง ALLEGIANCE ในบท Sammy โดยร่วมแสดงกับ Lea Salonga (MISS SAIGON) และ George Takei (STAR TREK)
และในปี 2017 Telly ได้รับบท ALADDIN มิวสิคัลชื่อดังของบอร์ดเวย์ นอกจากนี้ เขายังร่วมแสดงในละครโทรทัศน์ต่าง ๆ เช่น GLEE (กลุ่มDalton Academy Warblers), INSTINCT, ODD MOM OUT, DEADBEAT, LAW AND ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT และ LIMELIGHT

Open call for one-day online/offline mixed live performance art event
We need your participation!!
We’re pleased to announce that we plan to create a one-day online/offline mixed live performance art event before this 18 Aug.
From the previous residency program, #EquitystartsatschoolTH or Thailand-fellow Local Gatherings, Mini-Meeting 2021 initially created by Mekong Cultural Hub and partners collaboration, we have upgraded Zoom package into unlimited hours and participants, plus, simultaneous interpretations mode, and this will be expired before 18 Aug. Therefore, we’d like do fun thing, to host the one-day online performance art "Uncertainty" which will gather all kinds of artist, especially Thailand-based and abroad around 15-20 artists to be live performed in the program. Topic and duration are depending on you, the slot is provided soon. All the event will held in Zoom and live stream to our troupe page "Unidentified Theatre" The show date is probably Friday or Saturday before 18 Aug, TBD.
One more thing, due to there's no budgets so I will create a donation box uploading my troupe bookbank during on-air programs, and distributed for every artist and my production crews.

THIS SONG FATHER USED TO SING
This Song Father Used to Sing (Three Days in May) zeroes in on a small kitchen space in Bangkok. A brother and sister live through three days there in May, each time in a different calendar year, to commemorate their deceased father in a traditional Chinese ceremony. They cook, eat, chat and joke about nothing in particular. Their retiring nature contrasts with the captivating and often absurd conversations they engage in. Past, present and future blend subtly and are connected to the political context of the Thai metropolis. The play shows life as it is, without drawing a veil over its alienating character. The characters’ statements do not serve any logic and neither do they lead to a clear end.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Wichaya Artamat studied film and started working in theater as a project coordinator for Bangkok Theatre Festival 2008. He joined New Theatre Society in 2009, during which he grew to become a director recognised for various experimental forms and unconventional theatrical approach. Wichaya is especially interested in exploring how the society remembers and unremembers its history through certain calendar days. He co-founded For What Theatre in 2015. He is also a member of Sudvisai Club and Collective Thai Scripts. His work “This Song Father Used to Sing (Three Days in May) is internationally acclaimed and has toured to Austria, Belgium, Norway, and presented online in Japan. It won Best Play by the International Association of Theatre Critics, Thailand Centre (IATC) in 2016, and was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Artist, Best Performance by a Female Artist, and Best Original Script awards in the same year.

In 2021, NIDA's In Conversation series is taken over by an impressive line-up of curators spanning film, theatre, tv and digital media, assembling a diverse line-up of guests who will explore their role in impacting and changing Australian culture through the arts.
Curators include: multi-award-winning theatre and opera director Imara Savage (St Joan, Top Girls); AACTA Award–winning director and screenwriter Beck Cole (dir. Black Comedy, Wentworth, co-writer Samson and Delilah); playwright, screenwriter and multidisciplinary Thai-Australian artist Anchuli Felicia King (White Pearl); director, playwright and dramaturge Tasnim Hossain (ABC TV’s Carpark Clubbing); actor and one of Casting Guild of Australia’s Rising Stars of 2020 Bridie McKim (Bump, The Heights); and director and actor Darren Yap, whose 2020 directing credits alone include Joseph and His Amazing Dream Coat (C.A.T and Shinjuku Productions in Tokyo), Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam (Belvoir St Theatre), Double Delicious (Contemporary Asian Australian Performance/Sydney Festival), and Next to Normal (NIDA graduation season).

Call for applications
K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg provides three paid eight-month residencies per season to choreographers, who are currently at the beginning of their career and have produced some choreographic work of their own. The residency begins in August and runs until April of the following year. The residency includes mentoring and dramaturgical, technical, and production related support. It moreover links the projects proposed by the choreographers in residence closely to the various other on-going programs of K3.
The goal of the residency is to develop and strengthen the connections between choreographic practice, research, artistic production, and qualification. The length of eight months should provide sufficient time and space for overcoming conventional rhythms of production and open up space for exchange with other artists and interested parties in order to receive new impulses and contacts. Over the course of the residency the three choreographers will each develop a full-length piece that is presented at the end of the residency on three evenings.

Application Requirements:
• The applicant must be at the beginning of his/her career and should have already implemented some projects of his/her own (outside of a university context).
• The applicant is available for the entire duration of the residency from August 2022 until April 2023 to stay in Hamburg.
• The applicant is willing to participate in K3’s outreach programme and other events at K3.
• The applicant is interested both in engaging in exchange with other artists, as well as with an interested audience.
• The applicant already has some experience in / is interested in dealing with choreography on a discursive level, reflecting her/his own work, as well as working in a self-organised manner.
• Only applications by individuals can be accepted. Applications by teams or ensembles cannot be taken into consideration.
• We accept applications in all choreographic fields (e.g. dance for young audience) and from all nationalities.
The residency programme covers:
• a monthly scholarship (for living expenses, accommodation)
• one-time travel expenses from and to place of residence
• a moderate production budget for the performances at the end of the residency, which allows for a small team over the last few weeks of the residency
• use of the K3 studios
• an accompanying support from the K3 team in the fields of dramaturgy, organisation, technical assistance, and public relations
• active participation in the K3 outreach programme
• After consulting with K3, accessibility costs can be covered in most cases. If you have any questions regarding accessibility, you can find some general information HERE and in our FAQ.
The application deadline is 12 August 2021 (11:59pm central European time).
The application can only be made in English through the ONLINE FORM.
The application form contains e.g. questions concerning artistic background, motivation, and details on the artistic project being proposed for the residency. If for accessibility reasons you need help in navigating the application form or need to send in your application in another form, you can contact us via mail or phone.
The online application form can be filled in, edited and saved during the application period (21 June 2021 to 12 August 2021 11:59pm). All applications, which have not been sent before the deadline, will be deleted. It is not possible to apply in any other way or to extend the deadline.

K3 offers two- to three-month internships several times a year in the fields of organisation and communication. On inquiry, longer internships are also possible. Good German language skills are necessary.
